Epson Artisan 835 Blue Ink Comes Out Purple

  1. I have an Epson Artisan 835. Everything was fine up until about 2 weeks ago when the printer started printing every color Ok except Black. The black prints out in a faint purplish color.

I can print a test pattern using the printer test pattern option and the black print is fine but when I print from my computer it is always light purple.

It seems as though the black color is set some other color but I can't fingure out what has happened.

    Help.

  2. have you tried re installing the printer driver/software and or resetting the print options to default

are you using original or 3rd party inks ?

  3. I have already done all that. Yes original inks.

  4. is it printing the purplish tint normal black text and or on photos/graphics ?

if text is printed with a tint i would say it might be a printer problem and the nozzles a gummed up
if it's photo's it might be down to colour space settings or the nozzles are gummed up
for most printers sRGB colour space is what you should be using
on some of the higher end printers adobe rgb can be used but if your photo image is processed as adobe rgb and the printer is expecting sRGB colour space the print will look flat and not as vibrant as it should

it's the same when you upload a photo to your favorite web gallery if it has been processed as an adobe rgb image the gallery would be expecting a sRGB processed image and will lose it's vibrance

when blacks have a purple tint when printing photo's it usually means the printer cannot process the colour properly and uses the nearest within its colour gamut
it's something that can happen when a dark photo has been brightened to a point where blacks and shadows lose there colour information so the printer makes a wild guess usually a purple tint because of the way some printers work
even though they have a separate black ink cartridge ( sometimes two black cartridges ) they still use the rest of the colours to produce black or shades of grey if there is no black colour information i think what happens is black is not used and the end result of the rest of the colours used is basically dark purple

i would try a deep clean cycle first before i started messing with colour spaces etc it sounds to me that the black ink nozzles might need a good clean

  5. I have cleaned the nozzles about 6 times and it does not help. When I do a nozzle check the black is not showing up at all, just white space. Also I can put a b/w text copy in the scanner to scan and nothing shows up so it does not recognize or else use the black ink. I can also copy the b/w test page and sheet of paper comes out perfectly blank.

What is sort of funny is I can do a test print sheet on the printer and the black color looks more black not purplish.

    Tom
