I am emerging from my k-hole to once again be mad as fuck about asshole companies shutting down their online storefronts. For those unaware, this fourth dimension it's Nintendo... once more. Specifically, the 3DS and Wii U eShops volition be shutting downwardly in March 2023, although from a functional perspective, you only have until Baronial 2022 at the latest to make any new purchases. This is not valid, and is, in fact, a hate crime. So since this is Nintendo we're talking almost, i.due east. the immovable object which will almost certainly not be bullied into bankroll down like Sony was -- especially since they did this before with the Wii and DSi -- allow's recommend each other games to download earlier things go sideways. You can recommend whatever you want, but the large things here are the download-only exclusives that volition be lost, and the games that are prohibitively expensive physically (e.g. Yo-Kai Watch Blasters, which is sitting at a absurd $220 on Amazon). Here are some of mine:

3DS:
3D Classics serial (both Nintendo's and Sega's)
Ace Attorney serial, especially Dual Destinies & Spirit of Justice
BoxBoy series
Chase: Common cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories
Chibi-Robo! Photograph Finder
The Denpa Men series
Dillon series
Gotta Protectors
Gild serial (Liberation Maiden, et al.)
HarmoKnight
Inazuma Eleven
Parascientific Escape series
Picross 3D: Round two
Pocket Card Jockey
Pokémon Boxing Trozei
Pushmo serial
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Rusty'southward Real Deal Baseball game
Sakura Samurai: Fine art of the Sword
Steel Diver: Sub Wars
Tokyo Crash Mobs
Unchained Blades

Wii U:
Affordable Space Adventures
Dr. Luigi
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (I know this got a remaster, but the original uses the GamePad interestingly)
Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge
Pushmo World
Wii U Panorama View series

I'1000 non gonna bother with Virtual Console games at this betoken, because I presume y'all are just gonna emulate them anyhow, only shout out to Duck Chase on Wii U, which has movement controls.

I am ok with them shutting down the stores for legacy consoles as long every bit they so offering them on electric current panel stores - whether as a port or remaster or emulation I am non fussed. Fifty-fifty if I have to rebuy it I would be okay (as long as they're non being overly greedy) considering it sends positive reinforcement to game companies to list old games.

If they don't do that, then I'll merely pirate a copy. I recollect of it as a win-win. I get to play the game, and the game visitor gets a wake up call to "List GAMES PEOPLE WANT TO BUY OTHERWISE We Will PIRATE".

What'south a k-pigsty btw?

I've got a few

Super Mario Accelerate four: Super Mario Bros 3 - Wii U.
This is a virtual console game, which in of itself is a remake of the original on NES. What makes this so standout is that it comes with all the Due east-Reader levels pre-installed. The only other mode to play those is if y'all take those expensive E-Reader cards.

Mysterious Murasame Castle - 3DS.
Another Virtual Panel game. This one is a scrap different even so. This game was never officially translated or released outside of Nihon until this virtual panel release. Nevertheless hasn't been added to NSO, then it might be worth getting.

Attack of the Friday Monsters - 3DS.
I accept never played this, although I program to. This is a game made by Level v and I think it looks similar information technology'd be a great fourth dimension.

DSi Ware games - 3DS.
Very general with this 1. You can still download the final of the DSi Ware games while they're still bachelor. There's a lot, I recommend doing some research into the best ones.

A couple download-simply 3DS games Mockturtle didn't list:
Gunman Clive
Rhythm Thief

Too, there are a lot of 3DS games that are cheaper digitally than physically that might be worth picking upward, like Dragon Quest 7 and 8.

[Don't freak out too much, though. Information technology's very piece of cake to homebrew a 3DS and all the games are archived in diverse places. Nil will be lost forever.]

Gunman Clive is on quite a few other platforms tho (like PC, Switch and PS4). I recall Mockturtle meant to list games that literally won't exist available anywhere else once the eShop is close down.

I would recommend some RPG's on the 3ds.

Bravely Default and its direct sequel Bravely Second: End Layer. They could be ported over since the sequel is on the Switch, but I don' see information technology happening any time presently and their physical version will probably get more expensive afterwards the Eshop shuts downwards.

The of import game is Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology as the concrete version is already pretty expensive and it's but going to go more so.

Maybe sure DLC content such equally Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation (It'due south available physically on the Special Edition, merely that ones kinda expensive) or Origin Island for Fantasy Life. Unless it is still going to be possible to purchase DLCs?!

I can also recommend the Pushmo serial and Attack of the Fri Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, which have already been mentioned.

Also, Crimson Shroud (which I just realized is missing on my backlog.. weird, I definitely own it)

And 2 puzzle games I remember that aren't besides bad: Wakedas and Tappingo

Also the flake nearly the e-shop being around for 10 years reminded me people defending Bungie deleting (or vaulting equally they similar to phone call it, because they're totally going to bring this stuff back one day, totally) whole expansions of content. Going on about how the game has been out for 4 years already and if y'all haven't played it in this time then you lot didn't really care and deserve to miss out.

Emulation is not that great, have you tried emulating 3DS? Some games work surprisingly well, others run similar crap. Not to mention all the fishy websites you take to download stuff from.

While nix lasts forever and the 'ephemeral nature of life' sounds cute, I bet there is a lot of people out there still playing those consoles (I'm one of them, I still accept my Wii U plugged in). Also, the fair comparing it'south when they've stopped selling new consoles, and not when they started. Nintendo stopped producing 3DS in 2020, not likewise long ago at all.

I recently tried to download a re-create of a PS3 digital merely game (Black Knight Sword) and finally gave up in cloy. It'south an obscure game, and the few sites I found that had information technology listed all had dead download links. The closest I got was a site had it dissever into 4 parts, and the 4TH Function Just had been removed past the host.
I guess my indicate is, this stuff is nonetheless non being preserved and archived. I recall the size of the games will exist an effect for preservation going frontwards. And yes, fifty-fifty if you manage to find them at that place'due south no guarantee it will emulate properly, and for obscure games there'south very little insentive to gear up this.

I practice indeed own other media that is over a decade old. Games don't receive that "special handling" because of how choosy they are to keep preserved in a globe of ever-changing operating system updates, security patches, and a plethora of feature sets getting added every other calendar week. Books are easy plenty to archive, physically or digitally. Aforementioned with movies and music. All three of these are non-interactive in the sense that they're non required to change what is happening based on an input. Nosotros tin let a movie or album play in the background. A digital book is basically a giant text file. Games require and so much more from the hardware/software and are therefore more hard to archive properly.

Bungie sunsetting content or Game Freak excising Pokémon is viewed as a terrible sin and something to be condemned. I just tend to view these things as office of the gaming business. I don't think that if someone didn't play expired content that they didn't intendance, simply that they didn't get to play it and that's fine. It would exist squeamish if Bungie, Game Freak, and Nintendo would keep their content/services effectually for the states to download for a scrap longer, but in the terminate, it'due south basically a live service and they can do whatever they want. I just choose to consider all of the other things I could be doing that don't include getting angry at a multi-billion dollar visitor making a determination they are 100% entitled to make.

Too, this is from the official statement:

I do want to mention since the quote was just brought up: while Nintendo does mention that software updates will withal be bachelor, I believe that's but true for Wii U. 3DS has its updates through the eShop. So unless Nintendo has something in identify for those updates, you will not exist able to actually update your games on 3DS. Both physical and digital.

This may non seem like that large of a deal, merely for some games you won't exist able to connect with other local players wirelessly. Such equally Smash Bros or the Pokemon games.

I'm glad I saw this post. Ya, I agree. Information technology'south pretty sad. They'll give any excuse they can recall of. This reminds me of the day that Microsoft shut downwardly Xbox Live for the original Xbox. They gave a garbage excuse but were but trying to strength everyone into buying an Xbox 360. Many of us were still playing on the OG box (I nonetheless practise to this day).

*EDIT
This is another reason why buying physical makes sense. Ever since I heard of people losing access to their Xbox 360 DLC on the marketplace, I knew that online shops would not allow you to download those games you bought forever. Or at to the lowest degree not all of them would. Actually, that was honestly the turning indicate for me. I was buying digital games for home consoles just stopped after that. I still buy digital for PC though.

I never wrote down my Xbox Live info on the 360 so I had to re-buy everything I purchased on the marketplace (I bought physical the 2nd time effectually). Heck even GTA IV (disc version) for the PC! Anybody recall those days? I paid an arm and a leg for that game. It had limitations on installing beyond multiple PCs. My original PC couldn't run it. And then I shelved it. Downwards the road, I bought a new PC and guess what?! The copyright restrictions would not permit me to install on my new PC since I had installed the game on another PC... I paid all that coin for nothing.
